The Tiptons' material ranges from micro-Big Band to Gospel, Bluegrass to Balkan, whimsical Chamber Jazz, and nocturnal Funk to Free Jazz Improvisation using saxophones, clarinet, their voices, drums, and inventive percussion to create a genre-busting ‘world soul’sound. The band takes its name in honor of Billy Tipton, a female-born saxophonist who lived their life as a man in the 20th century to realize their dreams as a professional musician. Baroque Betty LIVE at the Rosebud
$20* / All Ages / Doors 6pm, Music 7pm / String Quartet / Alternative / Contemporary / Online presale tickets are available at https://bit.ly/baroquebetty_rosebud
Commentators who like to keep things neatly slotted into place have struggled with Baroque Betty, precisely because they defy simple categorization. Though the quartet’s string-laden melodies occasionally anchor them in the territories of folk, bluegrass, or minimalist rock, they’re more at home in the cracks in-between.
It’s from these quirky, deeper, sometimes darker places that Betty Jaeger’s voice reaches up, takes you by the hand, and sweeps you along on an entrancing musical journey.
